CNN Journalist Larry Madowo has expressed concerns after a Tanzanian Businessman became the majority shareholder of the Nation Media Group.

The Tanzanian Businessman, Azizi, according to reports making headlines, now owns the biggest share in NMG, which is more than 50 per cent.

While reacting to the report, Larry Madowo has argued that such a move would pause a great danger to the future of Nation media if caution is not taken.

According to the CNN Journalist, the lack of media freedom in Tanzania may jeopardize the freedom of this giant media House, that is now owned by a Tanzanian national. “Tanzania doesn’t have a great history of media freedom.” Stated the Journalist.

In his message, the journalist has asked the Tanzanian Businessman to continue upholding the independence of NMG, as it will be the only way to prove his assertions wrong.

“I hope I’m proven wrong by Azizi’s commitment to keeping NMG independent despite his various business interests in the region.” He added.

Larry has continued to insist that the closeness of Azizi to President William Ruto and President Samia Suluhu may interfere with media freedom, especially those working at the Nation media Group.

The statement by Larry Madowo comes at a time when there have been lots of concerns about media freedom in the country, with the Ruto administration being accused of deliberately sabotaging the freedom of speech through silencing of government critics.
