When the first case of Covid-19 was announced in Kenya people were left with so much time indoors.
This led to high rates of procreation and we can’t marvel at how many prominent politicians became grandparents in 2021.
Raila Odinga
Ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga became a grandfather after his son Raila Junior and his wife welcomed a son on the day Ida Odinga was celebrating mother’s day.
In a post he made a few minutes after the birth on his Twitter page, the man was in a jubilant mood as he congratulated his wife, Yvonne Wambui Kibukosya, for successfully giving birth on his mother’s birthday.
His message read, “She gave my mum, Ida Odinga, the best birthday present in the world. At Yvejr1 Thank you God bless you. I love you so much!”
William Ruto
Deputy President William Ruto became a grandfather for the first time after his daughter Charlene Chelagat Ruto welcomed a baby recently.
A source whispered to Mpasho the exciting news saying, “The grandparents as super jazzed with the arrival of the little angel. This is their first grandchild.”
Adding, “Rachel Ruto has been spending so much time with her grandchild and very enamored with the newborn.”

Coincidentally, the Jubilee duo of president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy Ruto became grandparents within the same month.

Uhuru Kenyatta
President Uhuru Kenyatta became a grandfather for the third time after his daughter Ngina welcomed her first child.
In November 2017, Jomo and his wife Fiona Achola Ngobi were blessed with a daughter, Baby Wanjiru, who was named after his mother, Margaret Kenyatta which follows Kikuyu naming practices.
To date, no image of the girl has been seen by the public despite being spotted at the Lewa marathon with her father and mother a few years ago.
On May 27, 2020, Jomo and Achola would become parents for a second time when they were blessed with a son. In this instance, Jomo would name him after his father, Uhuru, as per Kikuyu naming traditions.
Uhuru was born at the private wing of the Nairobi Hospital.
The news of Ngina giving birth was kept hush until the last minute.
There are no photos of her pregnancy nor of her baby.

Governor Sonko
Sonko became a grandfather after his daughter Saumu welcomed her second child.
The ex-governor could not contain his excitement and could be seen enjoying the company f her granddaughter at the hospital.
Although dramatic Sonko is known to love his family deeply and we can’t imagine how lucky his grandkids are to have him as their grandfather.
