Marya Prude has opened up about the painful and complicated journey, that led to her divorce from former Citizen TV news anchor Willis Raburu, revealing details that left many listeners moved and reflective.

Speaking during an interview on the Iko Nini podcast, Marya revisited the emotional period surrounding the end of their marriage, which came shortly after the tragic death of their daughter.

She disclosed that Raburu sent her divorce papers via WhatsApp, a move that caught her completely off guard and deepened her emotional distress at the time.

Marya revealed that while Raburu initiated the divorce process, she did not agree with the grounds he cited and felt compelled to file a separate petition of her own.

According to her, the disagreement over the reasons for ending the marriage is what made the divorce process particularly messy and prolonged.

“Ours was messy because we did another one where I was the petitioner. Because I did not agree with his grounds for divorce. I had my own grounds,” she explained.

Raburu, she said, cited irreconcilable differences and lack of conjugal rights, reasons Marya felt did not fully reflect what had transpired in their marriage.

She noted that she chose to file her own petition on the grounds of infidelity, stressing that the reasons cited in a divorce are significant and should not be dismissed simply to speed up the process.

“I feel the grounds are very important. You should not just agree because you want the divorce,” she said.

Marya added that both of them had been separated, making the claim of lack of conjugal rights insufficient in her view. As a result, the legal battle dragged on much longer than expected, adding to the emotional toll.

Since the divorce, Raburu has moved on and is now in a relationship with Ivy Namu. Marya, on the other hand, says the experience taught her resilience and the importance of standing up for her truth, even when the process is painful and drawn out.
