A senior Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer has been found dead in her matrimonial home in Migori County, triggering a homicide investigation by police.
The 28-year-old officer, identified as Second Lieutenant Synthia Awour Mboya of Gilgil Barracks, was discovered lifeless in her bedroom in Nyahera Village, Suna East Sub-county, in the early hours of Christmas Day. She had travelled to the area while on leave.
According to police reports, officers were alerted shortly before dawn and rushed to the scene, where they found the officer lying on the bedroom floor.
Preliminary observations indicated that she had sustained serious injuries, including a cut to the nose and marks on the neck that investigators say suggest possible strangulation.
“It was reported by the assistant chief of Osingo South that there was a murder incident involving a KDF officer,” reads part of the police occurrence book entry.
Detectives described the scene as suspicious and immediately secured the house for forensic examination.
The deceased officer’s husband told investigators that he arrived home from Migori town at around 1:00am and found the doors open.
Upon entering the house, he said he discovered his wife’s body in the bedroom and raised the alarm.
Police from Migori Police Station, working alongside officers from the Suna East Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office, have launched a full probe to establish what transpired before the officer’s death and to identify those responsible.
Scenes of Crime personnel documented the area and collected evidence before the body was transferred to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary.
A post-mortem examination is expected to shed more light on the cause of death.
The killing has shocked residents of Nyahera Village and the wider Migori community, with calls for swift and thorough investigations.
Authorities have urged anyone with information that could assist the inquiry to come forward as detectives continue piecing together the officer’s final moments.
