Train Accident

Nairobi, Kenya – As Kenyans prepare for the Christmas festivities, the Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has issued a weather forecast warning that several parts of the country may experience intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms over the festive period.

According to the Kenya Met, the counties expected to receive rainfall include Western, Nyanza, parts of the Rift Valley, Central, and the Coastal regions. The weather experts have noted that the showers are likely to be moderate but could intensify in certain areas, leading to localized flooding in low-lying regions.

“The upcoming weather pattern is influenced by the seasonal rains and low-pressure systems over the Lake Victoria basin,” said a senior meteorologist at Kenya Met. “We advise the public, especially those traveling across regions, to take necessary precautions.”

The forecast comes at a time when many families are planning to travel for Christmas reunions and holiday activities. Roads in Western and Nyanza regions, already prone to flooding during heavy rains, may experience traffic disruptions. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously and plan for possible delays.

Schools that resumed recently after the end-of-year term may also be affected, as some counties anticipate heavy downpours that could disrupt short-term outdoor activities. Fishermen and farmers in the affected counties are advised to monitor updates closely, as the rains may impact both agriculture and water-related activities.

The Kenya Met has committed to issuing daily updates over the festive season to ensure public safety. This advisory also aligns with global weather models that have highlighted increased rainfall in parts of East Africa this December.

As Kenyans celebrate Christmas, authorities encourage communities to remain vigilant, keep emergency supplies ready, and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours.
