Residents of Kivumbini Estate in Nakuru County remain stunned following an unusual and deeply unsettling incident in which a 44-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly running an illegal detention facility from her home.
The strange episode, which came to light over the weekend, has left locals struggling to understand how one individual managed to carry out such acts unnoticed for days.
According to preliminary police findings, the woman is accused of converting her residence into a makeshift holding cell starting December 5, 2025.
With remarkable boldness, she allegedly carried out operations that closely mimicked official law enforcement procedures.
Witnesses claim she moved around town with confidence, stopping, questioning, and arresting people as though she had legal authority.
Among those reportedly detained were 36 motorists whom she accused of driving while intoxicated.
She also rounded up eight young men she branded as habitual drug users, accusing them of wasting their lives through idleness.
In another incident along Kanu Street, the woman allegedly conducted a late-night sweep that resulted in the arrest of three men she claimed were planning to rob motorists.
Her actions reportedly escalated as she went on to detain 19 suspected pickpockets, accusing them of stealing money intended for weekend entertainment.
Even more alarming, neighbours say she locked up 98 men she accused of domestic violence. Witnesses allege she subjected them to lengthy lectures, threatening them with extremely harsh punishments in what she described as her “prison.”
Residents described her as unusually fearless, disciplined, and commanding, traits that led many to initially assume she was a senior police officer or part of a special security unit.
Some even cooperated with her, believing she was helping restore order in the area.
However, the shocking operation came to an end after police received several complaints from concerned residents.
Officers moved in, freed all the detained individuals, and arrested the woman. Investigations are ongoing as authorities try to establish her motives and whether others may have assisted her in the bizarre scheme.
