Former Kenya Army Commander Lt Gen ( Rtd ) Walter Koipaton Ole Raria on Friday made a rare public appearance when he attended the passing out parade of Kenya Wildlife Service cadets and officers at Manyani, Taveta County.
The event was presided over by Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki and attended by senior government officials, including tourism cabinet secretary Rebecca Miano with Taita Taveta County Governor Dr Andrew Mwadime also in attendance.
For Lt Gen ( Rtd ) Koipaton, it was a rare public appearance for him since his appointment as the board chairperson of the Kenya Wildlife Service in 2022 by President William Ruto.
The retired General served in the Kenya Defence Forces for four decades having been enlisted into the military as an Officer Cadet in 1982. He was commissioned as second lieutenant in 1983.
In 2018, he was appointed as the Kenya Army commander by the then President Uhuru Kenyatta to succeed General ( Rtd ) Robert Kibochi who was elevated to the position of vice Chief of Defence Forces.
Lt Gen ( Rtd ) Koipaton retired from the military in 2022 after attaining 61 years, which is a retirement age for a three-star general. He was succeeded by Lt Gen ( Rtd ) Peter Mbogo Njiru.
