He rose to become one of the most powerful men around former President Uhuru Kenyatta. At the height of his powers, Major General ( Rtd) Dr Gordon Kihalangwa had the President’s ear.
The retired Kenya Army General had a successful military career before joining the public service.
In the Kenya Defence Forces, Major General ( Rtd) Dr Kihalangwa rose to the position of assistant chief of Defence Forces in-charge of logistics and personnel.
In his position, he was directly answerable to the Chief of Defence Forces.
At one point, he was in-charge of the much feared military police while at KDF.
After retiring from the military, the USA- educated Major General ( RTD) Dr Kihalangwa was appointed by Uhuru as the Director General, Immigration Department before being replaced by Alexander Muteshi.
He would be appointed as Immigration Principal Secretary by Uhuru before being moved to the energy docket as PS.
But the start of the President William Ruto reign in 2022 ended the retired General’s public service career after losing his post as Energy PS. From there, little has been heard about the former PS who has since maintained a very low profile.
So what became of this former no-nonsense general who won Uhuru’s trust?
Now in his 70s, the former Kenya Army man must be enjoying the sunset years of his life even as he reflects on his life in the military.
