MP Alpha Kiraka today stirred debate during a church service in Kisii County after declaring that President William Ruto’s rise to power in 2022 was an act of God, and that he believed the same divine intervention would secure the President a second term in 2027.
The service, attended by President Ruto and several Kenya Kwanza leaders, drew a large congregation that listened keenly as the first-term legislator made the bold assertion.
Speaking moments after being invited to address worshippers, Kiraka praised the President’s leadership, saying Ruto’s journey from humble beginnings to State House was evidence of God’s favour.
“It is God who made Ruto President in 2022. And the same God will make him President again in 2027,” Kiraka said, prompting a mixture of applause and murmurs within the church.
The MP urged leaders to embrace unity and support the government’s development agenda, arguing that divine guidance had placed President Ruto at the helm to steer the country through economic challenges. He said Kenyans should remain patient and give the administration time to deliver on its promises.
President Ruto, who spoke later, focused his remarks on national cohesion and ongoing government projects in the region, thanking church leaders for their continued prayers and support.
He emphasized the role of the church in promoting peace and moral grounding, especially as the country approaches another election cycle.
The service comes at a time when political temperatures are gradually rising, with allies and opponents of the President positioning themselves ahead of 2027.
Kiraka’s comments add to a growing list of politicians invoking faith in their political messaging, a trend that continues to shape discourse in religious gatherings.
Church leaders at the service urged politicians to conduct their campaigns with respect and to avoid statements that could polarize the nation as campaigns pick up momentum.
