The suspect in the murder of a State House-based General Service Unit (GSU) officer will spend the next two weeks in police custody as he undergoes a mental evaluation in preparation for his trial.

The scheduled appearance of Kithuka Kimunyi Musyimi, who has been detained for more than one month, at the Kibera High Court to enter a plea was adjourned to November 27, 2025. In order to officially accuse Musyimi with murder, the prosecution notified the court that he has not yet completed the needed mental evaluation.

Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka, a GSU officer stationed at one of the State House gates at the time of the attack, was killed, and Musyimi is accused of his murder. On October 13, 2025, next to State House Gate D, along Denis Pritt Road, Musyimi was apprehended, according to police reports.

The man had disguised himself as a street vendor and, according to authorities, was armed with a bow and arrow stashed in a blue bag. Officer Matanka was shot in the chest after he allegedly leaped behind an inspection vehicle, according to witnesses.

Despite being taken to Kenyatta National Hospital, the officer passed away from his wounds while undergoing treatment. Not only did it take the life of a devoted officer, but it also occurred outside the nation’s most protected mansion, which sent shockwaves throughout the country.

One of the most heavily guarded sites in Kenya, State House is home to the President and Commander-in-Chief. It is guarded by special GSU units and has extensive surveillance equipment.

Following the murder, questions have been voiced over the effectiveness of security measures surrounding the presidential property and the capacity of the authorities to identify and eliminate possible dangers prior to their worsening.

Officer Matanka was a disciplined, modest, and devoted guy, and his family is still grieving his loss while Musyimi waits for his mental evaluation.

Many concerns, like his motivation, level of preparation, and the vulnerability of even the safest environments, remain unsolved since his death.

Assuming his mental health is verified, Musyimi is scheduled to enter a plea to the murder charge when the hearing resumes later this month.
