Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again found himself at the centre of national attention after directly addressing Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja in a strongly worded public message.
The seasoned politician, who reminded Kenyans that he was elected by over 7.2 million voters, declared that it was his civic duty to advise the IG amid growing political and security tension in the country.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Gachagua maintained that his experience as the second Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya gives him both moral and constitutional ground to speak on matters of national policing.

The former DP, who has been openly critical of how state organs have been handling political affairs, especially around the Mbeere North by-election, appeared to caution the IG against being drawn into partisan actions. His remarks follow growing claims by opposition and independent voices that the police have been used to intimidate certain political camps ahead of upcoming local polls.
Political analysts see this as part of Gachagua’s calculated comeback strategy. Once President William Ruto’s closest ally, the former DP has lately positioned himself as a defender of democratic order, appealing to Mt. Kenya voters who feel alienated from top national decision-making.
His latest message to IG Kanja now deepens speculation about whether he’s preparing for a bigger political return in 2027 under a new platform.
For the police chief, however, the message places him in a sensitive position, balancing public confidence while maintaining loyalty to the commander in chief. With the by-election season heating up, the relationship between senior security officers and former state officials is clearly becoming a new frontier of political scrutiny.
