It is said that journalism is a calling and therefore to many journalists, it is more that just a job because it requires a lot of commitment to truth and justice beyond financial gain.
If there is a journalist who is currently committed to her job, then it is none other than Fridah Mwaka, who is a renowned Swahili news anchor at NTV.
The sassy media personality is actually so committed to her wok that she has even ever slept at one of the offices at the Nation Media Group-owned station, instead of going at home.
Fridah Mwaka opened up about this in a post that she recently made on her Facebook account, where she shared a photo of her lying down on the floor while barefooted. She was also seen using her black jacket as a pillow.
Fridah Mwaka then revealed in a caption that this photo was taken on the day when the body of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was being transported to Kisumu, after he passed away in India.
On that day, the talented media personality had to stay at work as the place was just a beehive of activity.
Fridah Mwaka further appreciated herself for being committed to her work, and also appreciated her fellow journalists for the sacrifices that they always make.
“…In this moment I was simply 馃ケ done. My spirit was ready to go on air and deliver the News, but my body whispered, “Rest”.
This is the side of journalism many don’t see the long nights, the silent sacrifices, and the passion that keeps us going.
Here’s to every storyteller who gives their all, even when the lights go off 馃憣 #LifeOfAJournalist” she said.
The disclosure by Fridah Mwaka also elicited some reactions from Kenyans on Facebook, who appreciated her level of commitment to her job.
