Thousands of mourners were overcome with emotion at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay after Senator Oburu Oginga broke into an emotional dirge while remembering his late brother, Raila Odinga.
The emotional moment unfolded during Raila’s memorial service, where the Siaya Senator confessed that he sometimes still feels as though his brother is alive.
The packed stadium fell silent before bursting into screams and wailing when Oburu, overwhelmed by grief, began to sing, “Raila ulifanyaje? Tinga, what have you done?”
His words moved the crowd to tears, as many struggled to come to terms with the passing of the longtime opposition leader.
Raila Odinga, who died in India on October 15 while seeking treatment for a brain clot, was laid to rest at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Siaya County.
His elder brother Oburu has since taken over some of his political responsibilities within the ODM party and presided over the emotional memorial ceremony attended by thousands of supporters and top leaders.
Speaking during the event, Oburu revealed that he still finds it difficult to believe Raila is gone. “My heart and body still get anxious remembering that my brother died.
I am yet to come to terms that Raila left me for real,” he said amid tears.
Oburu also recalled how close the two were, saying Raila always shared gifts with him and that they often discussed family matters before his death.
On social media, Kenyans expressed sympathy, saying the scene reopened their wounds, with some commenting that the country still feels Raila’s absence deeply.
The memorial ended with chants of “Baba forever,” as mourners celebrated Raila’s legacy and comforted his grieving brother.
