The Chief of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF), General Jacob John Mkunda, has issued a strong warning to protesters engaging in unlawful acts during the ongoing election-related demonstrations.
Speaking during a press conference on Thursday evening, October 30, 2025, General Mkunda said the military and other security agencies had managed to bring the situation under control.
He assured the public that the country’s security forces are continuing to strengthen surveillance and maintain peace nationwide.
The army chief urged Tanzanians to remain calm and respect the rule of law, warning that those participating in violence or destruction of property would face consequences.
“Our nation is governed by the rule of law, which must be observed and respected by all,” he emphasized.
General Mkunda said the military’s role was to safeguard national stability and ensure that citizens enjoy peace without interference from criminal elements.
He noted that while peaceful demonstrations are allowed under the law, any actions that threaten national security will not be tolerated.
“All individuals involved in criminal activities should stop immediately to prevent unnecessary harm to society and the nation,” he said.
The General added that the TPDF, working alongside the police and intelligence units, will continue to monitor all regions closely to prevent further unrest.
He also called on community leaders, politicians, and citizens to cooperate with authorities in preserving order during the tense electoral period.
General Mkunda concluded by warning that if lawlessness persists, the TPDF and other security organs will take firm and lawful action against perpetrators to protect Tanzania’s peace and unity.
