Tension is rising across the region after outspoken Kenyan senator Boni Khalwale made scathing remarks against Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu, describing her leadership as a total failure. His comments came at a time when protests have erupted in several parts of Tanzania, with sections of the youth openly demanding that the military take control of the government.

In a post circulating online, Khalwale dismissed Suluhu’s administration as weak and disconnected from the realities facing ordinary Tanzanians. His remarks gained traction as videos surfaced showing members of the Tanzanian military standing by and even interacting peacefully with protesters calling for regime change. Source

Protesters in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, and Mwanza were seen chanting slogans demanding that the army intervene, accusing President Samia of muzzling democracy, stifling economic progress, and tightening internet control to silence dissent.

The situation escalated further after reports indicated that internet connectivity had been disrupted, a move widely interpreted as an attempt to block live streaming of the ongoing unrest.

Observers say the latest wave of demonstrations marks a dangerous turn for Tanzania, a country that has long prided itself on political stability. Analysts also note that the frustration among young Tanzanians reflects growing anger over rising living costs, unemployment, and allegations of authoritarian governance.

Khalwale’s remarks have since fueled regional debate, with many Kenyans and Tanzanians taking to social media to argue over whether his statement crossed the diplomatic line. While some praised him for “speaking truth to power,” others warned that such comments could worsen tensions and strain relations between Nairobi and Dodoma.

As pressure mounts on President Samia to respond decisively, all eyes remain on the Tanzanian military, whose next move could determine whether the country slides into deeper political turmoil or finds a way back to stability.
