Mama Ida Odinga on Saturday delivered moving and insightful remarks in front of a delegation of governors who visited her at her Bondo home to offer condolences following the death of her husband, the late Raila Odinga.
The governors, who gathered at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, expressed their sympathies and praised Raila for his immense contribution to Kenya’s democracy, unity, and development. Mama Ida, in her brief but powerful speech, thanked the leaders for standing with her family during the difficult period.
She urged the governors to continue championing unity and service delivery in honor of Raila’s lifelong dedication to the nation. “My husband believed in building bridges and putting the country first. Let us continue that legacy by working together for the good of our people,” she said.
Her words were met with applause from the leaders, who commended her for her strength and composure during the mourning period. Among the governors present were James Orengo (Siaya), Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay).
The leaders later accompanied Mama Ida to Condole village, where they joined residents and local leaders in a prayer and remembrance ceremony.
Mama Ida’s address resonated deeply with those in attendance, reminding Kenyans of the importance of unity, peace, and service to others — values that defined Raila’s political journey and continue to inspire millions across the nation.
