Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has raised alarm over an alleged plot to attack him in Bondo, Siaya County, during the burial of the late opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Posting on his X account today, October 17, the outspoken legislator claimed that certain individuals had conspired to harm him either before or on the day of Raila’s final send-off.

“There are plans to attack me on or before the day of Baba’s burial,” Babu wrote. “I am aware of the culprits behind the scheme. It is my prayer that we give Baba the befitting send-off that he deserves, devoid of unwarranted violence.”

His revelation sparked widespread concern among his followers, with many calling for security agencies to investigate the matter and ensure his safety.

The legislator, a close ally of the late ODM leader, did not disclose the identities of those allegedly behind the plan but insisted he was fully aware of their intentions.

He urged for peace and unity during Raila’s burial, emphasizing that the ceremony should reflect the values the late statesman stood for — democracy, justice, and national cohesion.

Babu’s post comes at a sensitive time as political temperatures remain high in Nyanza following Raila’s death. His warning has fueled discussions about possible internal divisions and the need for tighter security during the high-profile state funeral.

Despite the alleged threat, the MP reaffirmed his commitment to honoring Raila Odinga’s legacy peacefully, calling on Kenyans to reject any form of violence during the final farewell to the man many regarded as the “father of modern democracy” in Kenya.
