Tension filled the air at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Limuru on Sunday, when a woman stormed a wedding ceremony claiming her husband was secretly marrying a second wife.
The woman, known as Mama Steve, arrived at the church with her children and caused a stir as she interrupted the ceremony.
She cried uncontrollably at the altar, begging the church to stop the wedding. Her husband, she said, never informed her about marrying another woman.
She said it was not fair and claimed that she had tried to see the priest and other church officials, but they always chased her away.
The incident shocked many, especially because such marriages are not allowed in the Catholic Church.
Mama Steve said she had earlier tried to talk to the church leadership about the matter but was treated rudely and forced to leave.
She questioned what the wedding meant for her, asking whether she was now useless and wondering if the God she prays to would allow her marriage to end in church.Despite the emotional outburst, the wedding went on as planned, with a Catholic priest reportedly officiating the ceremony.
The church has not given any statement, but the video of the incident has since gone viral, with Kenyans online demanding answers.
Many questioned how such a union could take place under Catholic rules and why the woman’s plea was ignored.
The dramatic event has now turned into a national debate, with people calling for justice and transparency from religious institutions.
