Kenyan comedians Mulamwah and Mammito have social media going wild after light-hearted claims of DNA on the internet. The drama started when Mammito, a well-known stand-up comedian, uploaded photos of her daughter onto the net for the first time. In seconds, fans flooded the comments, observing a striking resemblance between the child and Mulamwah.
Mulamwah, based in China, could not turn a blind ear to the rumor. In his typical flippant manner, he responded with witty comments that had netizens in hysterics. He joked about the shocking resemblance and teased fans who were tagging him on Mammito’s accounts, remarking that the internet never misses an opportunity to make something up.
Mammito also joined the fun, referencing DNA in a humorous comment that kept the exchange going. Neither comedian ever denied or confirmed any relationship beyond the exchanges but their repartee put fans on their heels and triggered a meme tidal wave on X (previously Twitter), TikTok, and Instagram.
The majority of Kenyans viewed the exchange as innocent joking, indicative of the pair’s ability to mock internet gossip rather than be too worried about it. Others were not so sure whether the resemblance was coincidence or a wink to something more personal.
Despite the hype, the two comedians appeared not to mind the rumor-mongering. Instead, they used the opportunity to make us laugh with their sense of humor, minimizing what would have been otherwise a touchy subject.
The accident highlights the public scrutiny of celebrities, especially when posting family content. It also, however, illustrates how celebrities like Mulamwah and Mammito deal with gossip in laughter and toughness, earning a large following from their supporters. To their supporters, the accident was further proof of why the two continue to be Kenya’s most beloved comedians—always capable of making laughter out of everyday drama.
