Businessman Gibson Murage has once again been forced to watch helplessly as fire reduced one of his furniture outlets to ashes. The Kimbo branch of Modern Furniture Shop was completely destroyed by flames on Thursday night, dealing him a heavy blow just months after he suffered a similar tragedy.

Murage, who has built his brand across Kiambu, stood in disbelief as firefighters struggled to contain the inferno. Videos circulating online show huge flames consuming the building while locals tried to salvage a few items. The heartbreaking moment was captured in this Facebook clip: Link.

What has shocked many Kenyans is the timing. Barely ten months ago, his Ruiru branch was also gutted down in an almost identical fire. The double tragedy has now raised serious questions among his loyal customers and suppliers who fear that repeated losses could cripple his business empire.

For Murage, the damage is not just about furniture. His shops have been a source of jobs for dozens of youth in Ruiru and Kimbo. With the new fire, livelihoods are once again at stake, leaving families unsure of their next move.

Locals who rushed to the scene described the fire as fast-spreading and unforgiving. By the time firefighters from Kiambu County arrived, little could be saved. Witnesses said stock worth millions had already been destroyed, with some customers lamenting that they had pending orders now lost in the blaze.

The tragedy has sparked debate about whether business owners in the region are adequately protected against such disasters. Many are now urging county authorities to step up safety inspections and improve emergency response to prevent similar losses in the future.

For Murage, this latest fire is a bitter reminder of the unpredictability of business life. As one of the most visible entrepreneurs in Kiambu’s furniture industry, his next steps will determine whether Modern Furniture can rise again from the ashes, or fade into memory.
