Policewoman allegedly posted private images to a paramilitary WhatsApp group, leaving her in turmoil.
Nyarai Kambelembele arrived in court without a lawyer to explain for her acts, shocking both her coworkers and netizens.
Netizens reacted embarrassment, disappointment, and alarm over the officer’s reported conduct, questioning her lack of professionalism.
She was accused with obscenity and prohibited indecent photographs and appeared before Lusaka Resident Magistrate Peter Mungala.
Nyarai is facing two criminal accusations under the Cybercrime Act 2 of 2021. The first indictment says that Nyarai had indecent images or films that could corrupt morals between September 24 and 27, last year.
The second indictment accuses her of sharing indecent photos and videos in the Paramilitary Jubilee Intake 51/52 WhatsApp group during the same time period.
According to Zambian Main, the accused cop attended court without legal representation.
Online reactions varied from astonishment about why such images were taken to questions about law enforcement personnel’ honesty. Kingfred Zulu said, “It’s quite embarrassing for a law enforcement officer.
Instead of maintaining discipline and professionalism, she chose the opposite way. I’m curious what motivates someone to videotape themself in this manner.
People forget that once something is out there, it can never be completely taken back, and now it has put her in court.”
Luckson Tembo warns: “Trust these officers at your own risk.” The other allegedly robbed a bank of K622,443 and is on the run.
Now image someone who is supposed to defend citizens acting like this.” Besa J Mwansa: “Police cannot simply conceal a secret or impose an internal punishment. I bet she sent them by mistake and intended to send them to her bae instead.”
