Kenyan content creator and comedian Ruth Njoki Karegi, known to many as Ruth K, recently warmed the hearts of fans during a street video shoot.
While working on an advertisement, Ruth was approached by excited fans asking for selfies.
In a sweet gesture, she treated them to mayai pasua, a popular roadside snack.
She shared the moment on Instagram on Monday, September 8, 2025, writing:
“Today I was shooting an advertisement video on the street and met these amazing people. Always a pleasure meeting my fans, mavaibu tu hadi kwa ground.”
The simple act made a big impact, with many fans praising her for being humble and kind despite her growing fame.
A Costly Scam After Losing Her iPhone
Just a few weeks earlier, Ruth K had shared a more painful experience with her followers.
In a YouTube video posted on September 2, 2025, she opened up about how she was scammed out of Ksh20,000 while trying to recover her lost iPhone.
She had misplaced the phone at Kasarani Stadium, and since it held important content, she offered a Ksh30,000 reward for its return.
“The phone had many important projects. I thought it would be returned quickly,” she said.
Not long after posting the reward, Ruth began receiving messages from people claiming they had the phone.
One person, pretending to be a phone technician, gave her a convincing description of the device and claimed it had been brought to his shop.
She asked for proof. The man said the phone wouldn’t turn on but still managed to send a photo of the back.
Believing him, Ruth sent his contact details to her personal assistant to continue the conversation.
“He insisted he had the phone but couldn’t unlock it. I believed him,” she explained.
The man then asked for 75% of the reward—about Ksh20,000—upfront. Hoping to get her phone back, Ruth sent the money immediately.
But after the payment, the man’s phone went off. When she tried to visit the location he had given, she found out the place didn’t exist.
“I even offered to go in person, but he refused. That’s when I knew I had been conned,” she said.
