Kenya’s music industry is buzzing but not with excitement or praise. Singer Diana Marua’s highly anticipated comeback single, “Bibi Ya Tajiri,” has ignited a fierce online battle after its release, with fans and fellow artists divided over her controversial sampling of the late E-Sir’s iconic hit, “Saree.”
Rather than celebrating her return to the scene, Diana’s new track has been met with harsh criticism. The song has quickly become the focal point of a heated debate over whether it’s an homage to the late artist or a disrespectful exploitation of his legacy.
The drama escalated when VJ Patelo, a popular DJ known for his unfiltered opinions, posted a viral video on Instagram. In the video, Patelo accused Diana of tarnishing E-Sir’s memory and disrespected her for his words and failing to live up to the standard of quality music in Kenya. The DJ didn’t stop there he took personal jabs at Diana and her husband, musician Bahati, fueling an already tense situation.
“Wee Diana B wee ni fala wewe…we ni best rapper ujinga, wacha ufala imbia bwana yako kwa choo,” Patelo ranted, calling for a return to quality music and demanding that “jokers” like Diana stay out of the industry.
What began as a music release has quickly turned into an explosive online feud. As the dust settles, all eyes are on how Diana Marua and the Kenyan music community will respond to the backlash and whether this drama will hurt or help her career in the long run.
