Ruto Gifts

President William Ruto has pledged a significant reward to Kenya’s national football team, Harambee Stars, by announcing that they will benefit from the government’s Affordable Housing Programme at half the price.

Speaking during a public address on Thursday, Ruto said the move is meant to appreciate the players for their commitment and to motivate them as they continue to represent Kenya on the international stage.

He emphasized that footballers, like many other athletes, sacrifice much of their time and energy to bring pride to the country and therefore deserve tangible support.

“The Harambee Stars will access houses under the Affordable Housing Programme at only half the cost. This is a token of appreciation for their patriotism and a sign that Kenya stands with its sportsmen and women,” Ruto said.

The Affordable Housing Programme, a flagship initiative of the Kenya Kwanza administration, seeks to provide decent and low cost housing units across the country.

By extending the incentive to Harambee Stars, Ruto has sparked both praise and debate.

Supporters view the gesture as a morale booster for the national team, while critics argue that it risks setting a precedent that could stir demands from other sporting disciplines.

Sports analysts welcomed the President’s commitment, noting that improved welfare for athletes has long been a missing link in Kenya’s sports development.

For Harambee Stars, the pledge adds a fresh layer of motivation as they prepare for upcoming international fixtures.
