Four Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) cadet intakes held reunion events over the past week, celebrating long-lasting bonds of service, reflection, and gratitude.The gatherings brought together retired generals, senior officers, and instructors who played significant roles in shaping the officers’ military careers.
Cadet Intake 11, also known as “The Leader Intake” of 1979, reunited at the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS) in Embakasi under the theme “Reunion and Thanksgiving.”
The cohort included distinguished leaders such as former Chief of Defence Forces General (Rtd) Robert Kibochi, Lt Gen (Rtd) Jonothan Rono, Amb Maj Gen (Rtd) Lukas Tumbo, and General (Rtd) Nundwe.
Instructors and former regimental sergeants major also attended, sharing reflections on the intake’s enduring legacy.
Discussions highlighted veterans’ contributions to national development, particularly in agriculture and food security, while regional allies praised the values instilled during their training.
The reunion concluded with a visit to Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum.
Cadet Intake 12 of 1980 retraced their training journey in Maralal, Samburu County, in a “Safari ya Samburu” under the theme “Where It All Started.”
The veterans visited the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K), climbed the Trig-Point, and explored key training sites.Distinguished alumni included Amb Maj Gen (Rtd) George Owinow and Maj Gen (Rtd) Patrick Amogola. The event reinforced the values of integrity and professionalism while appreciating the new Veterans Identification Cards.
Cadet Intake 14 (1981) held their reunion at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Karen, honouring fallen comrades and paying tribute to their instructors.
The day was marked by shared reflections on rigorous drills, mountain expeditions, and jungle warfare training.
Cadet Intake 25 (1990) also gathered at IPSTC under the theme “Health is Wealth,” focusing on wellness in retirement, the Challenger Welfare Fund, and electing a new welfare committee.
