Meet John Maina, the celebrated Kenyan reggae and dancehall hype man famously known as MC Fullstop, who passed away at the age of 48. The beloved media personality died on Friday, August 1, 2025, after a long and public battle with tuberculosis.
MC Fullstop’s career began in the early 1990s when he was just 14 years old. He rose to become a household name in the 2000s, renowned for his raw energy and distinctive voice that captivated reggae enthusiasts across the nation. His mixes became a staple in entertainment joints and on the airwaves.
A prominent figure in popularizing reggae music in Kenya, MC Fullstop graced the stages of numerous clubs and live events. He was a familiar voice and face on several media platforms, including Kiss FM, Citizen TV, NRG Radio, and K24 TV, where he co-hosted the popular show “Riddim Vybz”. He was also a pivotal member of the Supremacy Sounds collective.
The entertainer’s health struggles began in 2021 when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis, which led to the collapse of his left lung. A year later, the illness affected his throat, severely impairing his iconic voice and his ability to walk.
