A chilling CCTV clip of a man violently assaulting his wife in their Kiambu home, as their little son cried and tried to protect her, has left Kenyans stunned, angry, and heartbroken in equal measure.
Cynthia, the woman at the center of the viral footage, has now opened up about the horrifying ordeal. Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, she revealed that the attack was triggered by a disagreement over a simple domestic matter—milk.
In the now viral video, the man—believed to be her husband—is seen flinging a cup and milk at her, before raining down blows in front of their terrified child. What breaks many even more is the little boy’s reaction: screaming “mama” and trying to shield her from the violence.
Cynthia has since walked out of the marriage and says she’s ready to rebuild her life, but needs support—especially a job to sustain herself and her daughter.
She narrated how years of emotional abuse had already broken her spirit before the physical violence erupted. “He controlled everything. Even after he beat me, he blamed me for making him angry. I knew I had to leave for the sake of my child.”
Now, Kenyans online are calling for the man’s immediate arrest and prosecution, with many demanding that the DCI and the Directorate of Gender Affairs act swiftly.
“If this man walks free after what we’ve seen on that footage, then the system has failed every woman,” one user commented.
The family unit may be sacred, but when silence becomes violence, women like Cynthia are forced to choose survival over marriage.
