Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina is in hot soup after a leaked phone call recording appeared online. In the audio, a woman said to be Betty is heard angrily insulting and threatening Nginda Ward MCA Mwangi wa Mapesa.
The drama started after both leaders attended a church service. During his speech, Mwangi made a comment about government empowerment programs, especially those involving beans. He questioned whether the money used for such projects should instead go to support education.
Shortly after, Mwangi said he received a phone call from Betty Maina. In the recording, the woman—believed to be Betty—lashes out in a mix of English and Kikuyu. She sounds angry and warns Mwangi not to speak about her again, even daring him to report her to the police or anyone else.
“You have spoken about beans, but I have not spoken about WaMaua. If I target you, I will dismantle you. Go ahead and record. You will know me,” the voice says.
Mwangi told Kameme FM that he had not mentioned Betty’s name, so he was surprised by the strong reaction. He said she even mocked his age and claimed he had no children. Mwangi chose not to argue and kept calm.
In response, Betty Maina went on social media and posted a short message saying, “Wasn’t me.”
The leaked audio shocked many Kenyans online. Some called her behavior shameful, others said it showed poor leadership. Many are now wondering if such leaders deserve to hold public office.
