Makueni Woman Representative Rose Museo has called for the resignation of National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah over remarks he made about Pastor Dorcas Gachagua.
Speaking on Thursday, July 25, Museo said Ichung’wah’s comments were disrespectful and unworthy of someone holding a senior leadership position. Pastor Dorcas is the wife of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and plays an active role in public service.
Museo questioned the judgment behind appointing Ichung’wah to lead in Parliament, stating that his words had offended many and shown poor leadership.
“How can a national leader speak like that?” she posed. “It shows that the president may have made the wrong choice in giving him that role.”
She went on to urge Ichung’wah to step down, saying his conduct had disrespected not only Pastor Dorcas but also the public.
The Woman Rep also called on political leaders to exercise responsibility and respect in their statements. She said holding public office should not be used as an excuse to insult or belittle others.
“It’s not just him. All politicians should speak in ways they can defend if asked again,” she said. “Being elected doesn’t give anyone the right to speak carelessly.”
Ichung’wah, who is the MP for Kikuyu, had not responded to the resignation calls by press time. His remarks have sparked debate both in Parliament and among citizens, with some supporting Museo’s stand.
The situation continues to draw national attention, with many calling for higher standards of behaviour among the country’s top leaders.
