Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested six men believed to be behind the shocking daylight shooting of a police officer at the Thika and Garissa road interchange on June 18, 2025.

The brutal killing, which sparked national outrage, led to an intense manhunt that has finally borne fruit.

According to DCI reports, the suspects were tracked down through crucial forensic evidence collected from the scene.

This evidence guided detectives to Kahawa West, where a well-coordinated sting operation led to the arrest of five of the suspects.

Those captured at the Kahawa hideout include Joseph Ngotho Karanja, Benjamin Kambo Mwangi, Athanase Ndacaisaba, Kelvin Mbilika Ollingo, and Samuel Omurambi.

During the arrest, detectives also recovered a vehicle, registration number KDQ 529W, which is believed to have been used during the murder.

The car is now undergoing forensic analysis as investigators piece together the suspects’ movements and roles in the crime.

The sixth suspect, Philip Muiruri Muchiri, was later arrested in Kiamumbi. Authorities believe he was also directly involved in planning or executing the fatal shooting.

All six suspects have since been arraigned at the Thika Law Courts, where detectives asked for more time to complete their investigations.

The court granted a 21-day custodial order, meaning the suspects will remain in police custody during this period.

Investigators are now focused on gathering more evidence, including communication records, CCTV footage, and ballistic reports. Their goal is to ensure a watertight case that can stand up in court.

The slain officer, whose identity has not yet been released to the public, was killed in a targeted attack that police say may be linked to a broader criminal network.
