Hon. Nimrod Mbai, MP for Kitui East, has urged the Kamba community to uphold respect and compassion during times of mourning, cautioning against politicizing the passing of his mother.
In a heartfelt message posted on his X handle, the legislator expressed deep disappointment over the insensitive comments that followed the announcement of his mother’s death.
He noted that some individuals had chosen to use the tragic moment to revive old political grievances and remarks, which he described as unfortunate and inhumane.
Mbai specifically referenced comments linking his past political statement, where he declared Kitui East a no-go zone for Wiper leaders, to the current mourning of his mother.
He reminded the community that Kamba culture does not endorse celebrating or politicizing death and urged people to reflect on their values and show empathy.
Dear Kamba Community, please, it is NOT our culture to celebrate death, he firmly stated.
He emphasized that the loss of a parent is a deeply personal pain and should be met with consolation, not mockery or criticism.
Mbai said he was speaking with a heavy heart after observing the tone of some online discussions.
He pleaded with his followers to rise above political divisions and embrace shared humanity during moments of loss.
The MP stressed that death should never be used as an opportunity for political attacks or point-scoring.
He concluded by asking for prayers for his grieving family and expressed gratitude to those offering sincere support.
Mbai called for unity, respect, and dignity in the face of sorrow.
