Shock and sadness have gripped a village in Bungoma County after an elderly woman was found murdered in her newly built mansion. The home, which stood as a symbol of love and success, had been constructed by her son who lives and works in the United States.
The woman, believed to be in her 70s, had recently moved into the beautiful new home. According to neighbours, her son had returned from the US, built her the house as a retirement gift, and left a few weeks ago after spending time with her.
Tragedy struck when neighbours noticed the woman had not been seen for days. Concerned, they decided to check on her. What they found left the entire village in shock—her lifeless body was discovered inside the house, showing signs of physical harm.
Police were called immediately and launched investigations. Preliminary findings show that the house had been broken into. Some household items were missing, raising suspicion that the attackers may have been robbers. The motive is believed to be either robbery or targeted murder, but no suspects have been arrested yet.
The woman was well known and loved in the area. She was described as humble and generous, someone who always greeted people with a smile. Her son had made her proud by building the mansion to thank her for raising him.
“He worked so hard abroad and came back just to build this house for his mother. Now this has happened… it is painful,” said one of the neighbours.
The body was taken to Bungoma County Referral Hospital for a post-mortem. Police say they are following several leads and have urged the public to share any information that may help in finding the killers.
The family, friends, and neighbours are now calling for justice. What was meant to be a peaceful and comfortable life for the elderly woman has ended in a brutal and heartbreaking tragedy.
