CS Kipchumba Murkomen on Saturday, July, 12th, expressed his honour in joining President William Ruto for a series of transformative development initiatives in Elgeyo Marakwet, culminating in a major boost to national reforestation drive under the government’s ambitious 15 Billion Tree Campaign.The high-profile visit saw the commissioning of the Etio Dam Project and Simotwo Water Project, alongside the groundbreaking ceremony of the Tirwane Water Project.

The leaders also participated in a symbolic tree planting event, marking the 9th edition of Kapatagat Forest Conservation Program a key milestone in Kenya’s environmental restoration efforts.

President Ruto, in a statement on social media, highlighted the significance of the Etio Dam, which he said had been launched a year ago in Kapteren, Keiyo North Constituency. He expressed satisfaction that the project had been completed on schedule.

“We are pleased it has been completed on time. The project will transform the lives of more than 8,000 households in Elgeyo Marakwet County,” Ruto said.

With a storage capacity of 160 million litres, the Etio Dam Phase I is expected to irrigate more than 2,500 acres of farmland.According to the President, this development will enable farmers in the region to grow high-value crops including passion fruits, avocados, cabbages, kales, and potatoes.

“This initiative will create employment opportunities and boost household income for our people,” he added.

The day’s activities revealed the government’s commitment to sustainable development, food security, and climate action — key pillars of President Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
