July 10, 2025 — Tension gripped the gates of Alliance Girls High School today as a group of outraged alumni gathered to protest allegations of sexual misconduct involving a long-serving male teacher.

The former students, some holding placards and chanting, demanded immediate action from the school’s board and the Ministry of Education.

Their anger stems from recent revelations in an investigative report by Africa Uncensored, which exposed decades-long sexual abuse claims against Peter Ayiro, a History and German teacher who also served as the school’s Christian Union patron.

Police officers were stationed at the entrance to monitor the protest and ensure it remained peaceful. Despite the heavy police presence, the demonstrators insisted their rally was not just about seeking punishment, but about demanding systemic change to protect current and future students.

Many of the alumni spoke passionately about the need for the administration to break what they called a “culture of silence” that allegedly shielded Ayiro from accountability for years. They also voiced support for the victims who came forward, commending their courage despite threats and attempts to silence them.

The Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Kenya) has already issued strong demands, calling for Ayiro’s removal, an independent investigation, and comprehensive measures to prevent future abuse.

A petition on Change.org, pushing for the teacher’s immediate dismissal and protection of students, has gained thousands of signatures within days.

So far, the Ministry of Education has yet to issue a formal statement on the matter, fueling further frustration among the protesters.

As chants echoed outside the iconic green gates, the message from the alumni was clear: justice must prevail, and students’ safety can no longer be sacrificed to protect the school’s reputation.

The unfolding events mark what could be a turning point for accountability at one of Kenya’s most prestigious girls’ schools.
