A Murang’a man who killed his wife by running over her with a car at their gate has been found guilty of manslaughter.

The Kandara Law Court on Wednesday convicted the suspect over the May 31, 2021 incident, rejecting his claim that unknown men had hijacked his vehicle and committed the crime.

According to the prosecution, the man had called his wife moments before the tragedy, asking her to open the gate as he approached in his Toyota Probox.

But instead of stopping, he rammed through the gate crushing his wife to death instantly.

The accused claimed that he had been overpowered by unidentified attackers who took control of the vehicle, ran over his wife and vanished into the night.

However, prosecutors Hilda Jebet and Millicent Oduor dismantled his version of events, arguing there was no evidence of any other individuals being present at the scene.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed the conviction in a statement, stating that justice had prevailed for the victim.

The convict is expected to be sentenced on July 23.

Just this March, a former United Nations employee was convicted of murdering his wife during what was supposed to be a birthday getaway in Naivasha.

The court found that he had premeditated the murder, luring his wife under the guise of reconciliation, only for her to be found dead in their hotel bathroom.
