Former Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki has spoken out with deep sadness and anger after a young man was shot dead by police in her home village of Tumaini. What was once a quiet, peaceful place turned into a scene of horror that residents say they’ve never witnessed before.
In an emotional statement, Kariuki said the events that unfolded were heartbreaking and must be condemned strongly by all Kenyans.
She revealed that police opened fire on a group of youth, killing one of them in cold blood. The incident happened during protests that have rocked different parts of the country, especially in rural areas where people feel ignored and unprotected. According to her, the village has never seen such violence, and the pain is now very real.
Kariuki sent her condolences to the family and friends of the young man and all others who have lost their lives during the recent unrest. She also called on authorities to stop using excessive force on protesters, most of whom are young people expressing genuine frustration.
Many Kenyans have woken up to similar reports from different parts of the country, with videos and pictures showing young lives lost and families shattered. What started as peaceful protests has now turned into a national cry for justice, fairness, and a stop to police brutality.
Cecily Kariuki’s message stood out because it came from someone who once served at the highest levels of government. Her voice added weight to growing calls for accountability, dialogue, and a complete overhaul of how the police handle peaceful demonstrations.
She also warned that if nothing changes, more young lives will be lost—and the trust between citizens and the government will be broken beyond repair.
Right now, Kenya is bleeding. And while statements and hashtags offer support, what people really want is action. Justice. And leaders who can hear their cries before it’s too late.
