A high school student was captured in a video walking to school in the early morning hours in a lion-prone area, leaving a section of Kenyans online deeply concerned.
In the viral clip shared on Facebook by Divinar Swahili Teacher, the boy, reported to be an orphan, can be seen walking alone along a deserted road in complete darkness. His every step is recorded by a man trailing him slowly in a car, using headlights to light the path while narrating the difficult journey the boy endures daily just to get to school.
The student is said to be a Form Three learner at Olekasasi Secondary School in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County. He also holds a leadership position as the deputy head boy at the same institution.
Apparently, due to the long distance between his home and school, he is forced to wake up at 4:25 a.m. to begin his journey on foot so that he arrives in time for his lessons. This is despite the fact that the route he takes cuts through areas known to be frequented by lions, putting his life in serious danger.
The video has since sparked emotional reactions online, with many Kenyans calling for immediate intervention to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the student.
