A bizarre scene unfolded during the burial ceremony of slain teacher and social media personality Albert Ojwang, after a mysterious man stormed the service on a donkey, claiming to have been sent by the ancestors to curse his killers.
According to a report by Tuko.co.ke on Thursday, July 4, 2025, mourners were left stunned and momentarily terrified when the man, dressed in traditional regalia and armed with a spear, gourds, and charms, arrived dramatically riding a well-groomed donkey. The man, whose identity remains unknown, said he had been spiritually instructed to perform a powerful ritual that would either drive Ojwang’s killers mad or send them to “Sayuni” (Heaven) by sunset.
The ceremony, held at Nyawango Primary School grounds in Homa Bay County, was temporarily halted as elders and family members tried to calm the crowd, many of whom were visibly shaken. Some mourners scattered in fear while others began filming the dramatic moment on their phones.
The man proceeded to chant incantations and sprinkle what he called sacred herbs around the coffin, all while invoking Ojwang’s spirit and calling upon the gods of the land to avenge the slain teacher. “The blood of the innocent cannot go unpunished,” he declared, warning that the killers had already been marked.
Local elders quickly intervened and led the man away from the main tent, urging mourners to remain calm and respect the solemnity of the occasion. However, the dramatic episode sparked heated discussions online and offline, with many interpreting the act as a symbolic expression of the community’s pain and demand for justice.
As investigations into Ojwang’s murder continue, the burial served as a powerful reminder of the deep cultural and emotional wounds the tragedy has left behind.
