A day after Ojwang was laid to rest, another painful story of police brutality reached its conclusion in court.

The Eldoret High Court has found two police officers guilty of murdering 21-year-old Dennis Lusava. The incident happened on October 7, 2022, at Mbururu Police Post in Likuyani, Kakamega County.

According to the court, Dennis was tortured and killed by the officers. He had allegedly embarrassed them in public. In retaliation, they beat him to death.

After the murder, the officers dumped his body in River Nzoia. They hoped the river would wash away the evidence.

The family of Dennis has waited nearly two years for justice. Today, their long wait was rewarded.

Justice Reuben, who delivered the ruling, said the officers acted in pure cruelty. He described their actions as a betrayal of the law.

The court heard that Dennis was healthy and full of life when taken into custody. Hours later, he was dead. His body showed clear signs of torture.

This ruling has brought back painful memories for many Kenyans. It comes just after the burial of Ojwang, another young man believed to have died at the hands of police.

Rights groups have praised the court’s decision. They say this is a big step in the fight against police impunity.

But they want more. They are now calling for quick investigations into other police killings. They also want reforms in the police service.

The case has sent a strong message: the badge is not a license to kill.
