The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned the public to prepare for colder-than-usual nights and light rains in Nairobi and several other regions across the country over the next five days.

In an update released on Monday evening, the department said that nighttime temperatures in Nairobi and nearby highland counties are expected to drop significantly, reaching lows of around 7°C.

The affected counties include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi.

The weather forecast indicates that light showers may fall at night in these areas. During the day, residents can expect mostly cloudy conditions with occasional light rains.

However, there will also be some sunny intervals, especially between morning and early afternoon.

The department said the cool weather is caused by changing wind patterns and cloud cover typical during the July season.

Kenyans are advised to wear warm clothing at night and early in the morning to avoid the risk of cold-related illnesses.

Despite the cold nights, daytime temperatures will be relatively warmer, with highs of up to 25°C expected in the Eastern Highlands of the Rift Valley.

This includes parts of Nairobi and the counties mentioned earlier.

Residents are urged to remain alert as afternoon and night showers are likely throughout the week.

The Kenya Met Department also advised farmers to take caution when planning their agricultural activities, as the weather could affect drying and harvesting.

Parents are encouraged to ensure school-going children dress warmly, especially in the early morning hours when temperatures are at their lowest.

Motorists are also advised to drive carefully due to the risk of slippery roads caused by the rains.
