She has made history by becoming the first female Major General in the Kenya Army following the recent military changes by President William Ruto.
In the changes, President Ruto promoted Brigadier Joyce Sitienei to the rank of Major General and appointed her as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor, Centre for security and strategic studies at the National Defence University-Kenya.
Prior to that appointment, the seasoned Kenya Army officer served as the director, International Peace Support and Training Centre, which is a constituent college of the National Defence University-Kenya.
By being promoted to the rank of a two-star general, Major General Sitienei has now joined the outgoing Kenya Air Force commander Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed as the only two women to attain the rank of Major General in the history of KDF.
Major General Sitienei holds a Bachelor of Education ( Arts ) degree from Moi University before joining the Kenya Defence Forces in 1995.
Now boasting 30 years in the military, the powerful Kenya Army officer could make history as the first ever female Lieutenant General in the history of Kenya in the future KDF changes.
