Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, has joined fellow Kenyans in mourning the death of Mama Mildred Wanyama, the mother of renowned sports personalities McDonald Mariga and Victor Wanyama.In a heartfelt message shared on Saturday, June 14, PS Omollo expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.

“I convey my deepest condolences to the larger Wanyama family following the passing of their beloved matriarch, Mama Mildred Wanyama,” he wrote.

PS Raymond Omollo described Mama Mildred as the pillar behind a family that has brought immense pride to the nation.

“She raised a remarkable family that has made Kenya proud across various sports. Her legacy lives on in the strength and discipline of her children,” he added.

His tribute included a special message to Wanyama siblings. “My thoughts and prayers are especially with my friend McDonald Mariga and his siblings Victor and Mercy during this difficult time. May Mama Mildred’s soul find eternal rest.”

The news of her passing was first announced by Mariga, who currently serves as the vice president of the Football Kenya Federation.He revealed that the family is making funeral arrangements, will share further details in due course

Mama Mildred was more than a mother—she was a mentor and steadfast supporter of her children’s sporting ambitions.

Notably, she guided Mariga to complete his education before pursuing professional football, a decision that laid the groundwork for his UEFA Champions League victory with Inter Milan.

She also played a pivotal role in nurturing Victor’s journey to the English Premier League and his captaincy of the national team, Harambee Stars.
