Muchichu

Tension is rising in Mbeere South Constituency, Embu County, after Gen Z activist Peter Muchichu was allegedly abducted by unknown men believed to be operating in a Subaru vehicle.

The incident reportedly took place at Muraru Market in Mbeti South Ward on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the local community and online spaces.

According to eyewitnesses, Peter Muchichu was going about his normal activities when men suspected to be plain-clothed officers surrounded him, forced him into a Subaru, and drove away.

Witnesses claim that the individuals did not identify themselves or provide any explanation for the arrest or abduction.

“They came in a Subaru, grabbed him, and took his phone. We don’t know who they were or where they took him,” said a witness who was present at the market.

Since his disappearance, family, friends, and fellow Gen Z activists have raised alarm, demanding immediate answers about his whereabouts.

A trending hashtag, #FreePeterMuchichu, has emerged on social media platforms as netizens call for his safe return and condemn the increasing cases of enforced disappearances in the country.

Peter Muchichu is known for being outspoken on matters affecting the youth and has recently participated in online activism criticizing government excesses and calling for accountability in public service. Some supporters suspect that his activism may have made him a target.

“What happened to Peter is scary. We cannot allow people to be taken in broad daylight without any legal process. We demand transparency and justice,” said a concerned youth leader from Embu.

At the time of publishing, local police had not issued any official statement regarding the incident. Human rights organizations and legal groups are now being urged to follow up on the case and assist the family in locating Muchichu.

The incident has drawn national attention as fears grow over increasing crackdowns on young voices using social media to demand change.

The public is calling on authorities to investigate the matter urgently, confirm Peter’s safety, and ensure that no citizen is punished without due process.
