A family in Kakamega County is in shock after their entire one-acre maize farm mysteriously dried up. The family says they had taken good care of the crops and were expecting a good harvest this season. But a few weeks ago, the maize suddenly started to dry, and now the whole farm is lost.
According to the family, the maize was doing well until one morning when they noticed the leaves turning brown and the plants drying up fast. They tried to water the farm and even used farm chemicals, but nothing helped. Within days, all the maize had dried up.
The family now believes someone might have done this on purpose. They suspect their own son could be behind it. The father said there had been family disagreements, and the son had recently threatened to do something bad. “We had a disagreement over land matters. Since then, he has not been happy with us,” said the father.
They have reported the matter to the local chief and are asking for an investigation. They want to know what caused the maize to dry up so quickly. If someone is found responsible, they hope action will be taken.
This loss is a big blow to the family, who depend on the maize for food and income. “This was our only hope for the season. Now we don’t know what we will eat or sell,” said the mother.
Neighbors have come to comfort the family, saying they have never seen anything like it. Some believe witchcraft could be involved, while others think it may be a case of poisoning.
The local authorities have promised to look into the matter and help the family find answers.
