Caren Nyamu

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has come under heavy criticism from Kenyans online after suggesting that the opposition may have played a role in the death of Albert Omondi Ojwang.

In a Facebook post, Nyamu offered condolences but also implied that the opposition could have staged a self-abduction to turn the public against the government.

Nyamu alleged that there have been instances of self-abductions orchestrated to turn the public against the government claiming that the opposition is desperate and capable of such actions. She further warned that those responsible for shedding innocent blood would ultimately face consequences within their lifetime.

The post did not sit well with many netizens who felt the senator was politicizing a tragic loss. One user by the JS Karenka commented, “Karen mambo yakutubeba ufala wacha tafathali… siku yenu itafika washenzi nyinyi,” expressing anger at her remarks.

Another by the name Miriam Gakii lamented, “Watu tuko nao kwa serikali ni wanyama hawana utu ata kidogo,” criticizing the government’s handling of such cases.

Calvince Ochieng questioned the country’s governance,m asking, “Are we governed by the rule of law or jungle?” Meanwhile, Rogers Ers bluntly told Nyamu, “You have come to vomit to people… sometimes be applying Brakes to your mouth before you speak.”

The online backlash highlights widespread frustration over the lack of clarity surrounding Ojwang’s death and a growing intolerance for perceived attempts to politicize the tragic incident.

Many are now demanding an independent post-mortem and a transparent investigation to deliver justice to Ojwang’s family.
