A peaceful Saturday morning in Kibuk, Kapsokwony, turned into a nightmare after a deadly fire claimed the lives of a grandmother and her two grandchildren. The heartbreaking incident has left the entire Mt. Elgon community in mourning.

 

The fire broke out early on June 7, engulfing the home where the victims were sleeping. By the time help arrived, the entire house had been reduced to ashes.
Photos seen by TUKO.co.ke show the scene of the tragedy, burnt debris scattered all over, and neighbors gathered in disbelief, watching rescue operations unfold. The fire’s cause is still unknown, but investigations are ongoing.

The victims were identified as Everline Maccan, the family matriarch, and her two beloved grandchildren. The news has sent shockwaves through the quiet village, with many struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.

Bungoma Deputy Governor Janepher Mbatiany visited the grieving family and issued a heartfelt condolence message.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Maccan family following the tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this painful time. May the Almighty grant them strength and comfort to endure this grief. May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace,” her statement read in part.

Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke also expressed his sadness over the tragedy, joining the locals in mourning.

“I am deeply saddened by the fire incident that happened in Kibuk, Kapsokwony, that claimed three lives. My heartfelt condolences go to the bereaved family and the entire Mt. Elgon community. Poleni sana,” he stated.

The fire has sparked discussions about fire safety, emergency preparedness, and the lack of quick response in remote areas. Many are questioning whether more could have been done to prevent the loss of life.

As the community mourns, Kenyans are being reminded of how quickly life can change. The pain left behind by this tragedy is unimaginable, and support is needed now more than ever.
