The notion that the gospel music scene is on its deathbed is something that has been gaining steam this past few months, nay years.
This is something we put to gospel singer, Alice Kamande, in a recent interview with Mpasho. She said;
“First of all, sometimes we get drowned out by what is happening but let’s also remember to define gospel for what it is. Gospel is gospel, it never changes.”
She went on to explain;
“It’s been there before we came. I know that things have been happening but we must remember that there are still people doing it right and we should focus on that, cause there are people who have sacrificed a lot and they are still doing it right and they are still standing strong.”
She urged Kenyans to also look at the gospel musicians who were doing it the right way and not the ones who were clout-chasing;
“Let’s not always look for the ones who aren’t doing it right. It’s unfortunate…Even for those who have gone astray, God’s love never ends, there is still room for them to come back.”
She finished by pleading with Kenyans for them to pray for gospel musicians, saying;
“Also, pray for us because we give life to people through the music that we sing. It’s through the word of God that we give people the hope that they need. So we need the support and prayers as well. If I am one of the people who is inspiring you, then pray for me. That is what Christianity is.”
