Kisumu police officers have freed 78 underage youths who were arrested after officers disrupted a night party at a residence in Mountain View Estate. The group consisted of 68 boys and 10 girls, all below 18 years.
The Central Sub-County Police Commander said the raid uncovered illegal substances, including bhang, cigarettes, and khat, in the possession of the teenagers. He noted that close to 100 youths had attended the party, but several escaped once police acted on intelligence information. Those arrested were escorted to Obunga Police Station, where they were questioned before being handed over to their parents.
The commander added that five remaining teenagers were later picked up by family members. Investigations also led police to contact the homeowner, who claimed he was not at home and had no knowledge of the event taking place in his house. Authorities have warned parents to keep a close watch on their children during the festive period, cautioning that police will stay vigilant and continue monitoring such illegal gatherings.
