A 3-year-old boy has been crushed to death by a school bus in Kayole, Nairobi County.

The minor according to eyewitnesses died on the spot during the incident that occurred near Imani Children’s Home in the Matopeni area on Thursday. It occurred at around 6.00 pm.

The boy is said to have been crossing the road when he was knocked down by the school bus that was dropping children in the area. The bus belongs to a private school located in Ruai, Njiru subcounty.

The matter was reported to Kayole police station as a fatal road traffic accident incident.

The deceased was in civilian, not school uniform, when the accident happened.

Kayole subcounty police commander Lucas Ongaya on Friday told the Star that he was yet to be briefed on the incident by the area traffic police commander.

Ongaya hadn’t gotten back to this reporter by press time.

Residents blamed the incident on speeding motorists due to the lack of speed bumps on the road.

They called on relevant authorities’ interventions by erecting bumps in the area to slow down speeding vehicles plying the route.

“There is a need for speed bumps on this road. I witnessed the child being knocked down by the school bus,” resident Pamela Makio said.

The locals addressed the press at the scene shortly after the accident.

Vincent Olukunya, said he had a bang minutes after the vehicle got to the scene of the incident where the deceased was crossing the road.

“The deceased was removed from the scene in the same vehicle that caused the accident. The boy succumbed to head injuries,” Olukunya said.

Police have launched investigations into the incident.
