As the Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams unfolded on Monday, the Ministry of Education vowed to clamp down on any malpractices, pledging a vigilant monitoring of the examination process.

True to their word, the ministry has taken swift action, revealing a disturbing incident in Migori county.

On Wednesday, 23 teachers were apprehended in a church within Migori county, allegedly participating in exam malpractices.

The illicit activity involved working on a chemistry paper intended to be clandestinely transported to a nearby girls’ school for distribution to the candidates. The authorities acted promptly, arresting the implicated teachers and taking them into police custody.

This revelation comes amid heightened efforts to curb exam-related misconduct, with several individuals already in custody for sharing exam materials on the internet.

The ministry’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examinations is evident through these decisive actions.

Notably, the incident extends beyond the boundaries of the teaching profession, as three principals from Nyamira county, including the head of the 2022 KCSE champion Nyambaria Boys, have been suspended for their alleged involvement in similar malpractices.

The Ministry of Education has issued a stern caution to those planning to engage in exam malpractices, emphasizing that they will not hesitate to apprehend and prosecute anyone found compromising the examination process.

These measures are crucial in upholding the credibility and fairness of the education system.

As the nation grapples with these unsettling revelations, it is imperative for all stakeholders, including educators and administrators, to prioritize ethical conduct and adhere to the principles of a transparent examination process.
